MANIPULATORY PROCESSES
BLOWING AND MAKING BY HAND.
We will now attempt to describe a few of
the manipulations of the Glass-blower, beginning with a wine-glass, which
will explain also the mode of manufacturing a goblet, and nearly all vases
or articles having three pieces—viz., a bowl, a stem, and foot.
WINE-GLASS IN THREE PIECES.
A, is the ball of hot Glass,
which adheres to the hollow blowing iron, B; and this,
after being rolled on a polished cast-iron slab, called a marver,
L, and expanded a little, in preparation for the bowl of
the wine-glass, C, further shaped, has the end rubbed
down with the battledore, to flatten it. |
