Illuminated manhole and coalhole covers often lose their lenses with age
and are filled with concrete or bars... though the occasional brave soldier
marches on, as shown. All were located either by Diana Stuart (of
Designs Underfoot, which page noted as
"[DUpp]") or by Julia Bedriy ("[JB]"). Two unilluminated
covers are included because of their important makers (Tice & Jacobs,
Jacobs Co). The Rockwell cover is missing its single moby jewel and has bars instead. Measurements are for covers only (does not include rim); for hexagonal covers, flat-to-flat distance is given.
